Embark on an unforgettable journey around Iceland’s legendary Ring Road, Route 1, and experience some of the country’s most spectacular natural landscapes. This adventure takes you through dramatic waterfalls, black-sand beaches, volcanic landscapes, glaciers, glacier lagoons, peaceful fishing villages, and the rugged East Fjords. The Ring Road forms a roughly 1,300 km loop around Iceland and connects many of the island’s major attractions.

Starting in Reykjavík, travel along the South Coast to discover the powerful Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the black-sand coastline around Vík, and the breathtaking Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. Continue through the scenic East Fjords before reaching North Iceland, where volcanic Lake Mývatn, geothermal landscapes, Dettifoss and Goðafoss await.

The journey continues to Akureyri and through Iceland’s beautiful northern and western landscapes before returning to Reykjavík. With stunning scenery at almost every turn, this is an ideal adventure for travelers who want to experience Iceland’s diverse landscapes in one spectacular road trip.

Coastal Adventure Reykjavík → South Coast → Vík

Begin in Reykjavík and travel along Iceland’s scenic South Coast. Visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls before continuing to the black-sand beaches and dramatic coastline near Vík.

Daily Itinerary Vík → Skaftafell → Jökulsárlón → Höfn

Continue east through spectacular volcanic and glacier landscapes. Explore Skaftafell and visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach before arriving in Höfn.

Daily Itinerary Höfn → East Fjords → Egilsstaðir

Drive through the peaceful East Fjords, passing dramatic mountains, coastal scenery, and charming fishing villages. Continue to Egilsstaðir for an overnight stay.

Daily Itinerary Egilsstaðir → Lake Mývatn

Travel north through Iceland’s rugged interior landscapes. Explore the volcanic surroundings of Lake Mývatn, including geothermal areas and unique lava formations.

Daily Itinerary Mývatn → Goðafoss → Akureyri
